Microfluidic Systems

automating miniaturized fluidic setups with active flow control

The field of microfluidics started with passive control of small fluid volumes. Today the use of active flow-control technologies unlock greater microphysiological system performance and automation.

Supporting Your Miniaturization and Automation Project

This microfluidic device allows diagnosing four infections in parallel and is driven by a pneumatic flow-control solution by memetis

Any fluidic system requires gases and/or liquids to be driven through microchannels and chambers. The direction, frequency and timing of the fluid flow will be orchestrated by the microchannel design, tubing connections, pumping direction, and valve integration that allow or restrict fluid flow from following a certain fluidic path.

memetis' expertise lies in orchestrating the flow control by integration of active microvalves, pumps and sensors, as well as supporting our customers with custom electronics and fluidic manifold design.

We will gladly help with our knowledge in various actuation technologies including SMA, piezo, solenoid, as well as system integration experience!

Pressure-Driven Flow Control

With this flow control module consisting of a piezo disc pump and 4 microvalves on a fluidic manifold, an Automated Cell Culture and Staining on a Chip protocol is implemented. Liquid supply is performed in a pressure-driven manner by applying regulated air pressure to 3-4 reagent tubes from which the liquid is pushed into the cell culture chip.

Multiplexed Liquid Handling

With the integrated 24 microvalve array various multiplex liquid handling protocols can be implemented. Up to 24 different reagents can be orchestrated and supplied, or, alternatively, up to 24 microfluidic reactions parallelized.
